SHOCKING CRUELTY TO HORSES, ONE LEFT TO DIE!
Below are pictures of a cruelty call we were on recently. We recieved a call from a member of the public to say that there was a horse in a very bad state in a field in the Glenconner heights area of Clonmel. This misfortunate animal had been almost starved to death and was now in such a bad state that she could no longer stand. After arriving on the scene, we immediatly called our vet and the Gardai.
After examining the horse, it was decided that the only option was to put the horse down as she was so badly neglected that she could not be saved.
This horse had no food, water or shelter of any decription and got into this state because her "so called" owners could not be botherd to look after her and were quiet happy to leave her there to die.
TAME JACKDAW FOUND IN CLONMEL AND HANDED IN TO THE T.S.P.C.A
This is a very tame and very playful Jackdaw that was found in Clonmel
a few weeks ago. He began following people around and landing on their shoulders on the main street before someone caught him and handed him in to us.
INJURED FAWN TAKEN IN AND NURSED BACK TO HEALTH
Below are some pictures of an injured fawn we took in a number of weeks back. She had no obvious injuries on the outside but was unable to stand on her front legs, she seemed to be paralysed. We took her to our vet who told us the she thought it might be some kind of spinal injury but was unsure. Normally when deer are found in this condition they are simply put to sleep but we always try to keep that as the very last resort.
Our vet gave her some pain killing injections and anti-biotics and we took her back to our center. The main problem we had with her was trying to get her to feed. Deer are such a frightened animal, they get spooked so easily which was preventing her from eating. After a few days she began to feed properly and we could see that she was begiining to recover. It took just over four weeks for her to get the use and feeling back in her front legs. Once we thought she was strong enough we took her back to where we had originally found her and released her again.
MARE AND YOUNG FOAL LEFT TO STARVE SEIZED BY T.S.P.C.A
We recieved a call from a member of the public with regards to a mare and young foal that were in a terrible condition and appeared to have no food or water. We inspected the area and while they were in a poor condition, they were not in a bad enough state for us to do anything at that time but give them food and water. We kept a close eye on these horses for a number of weeks but the situation did not improve. After nearly 8 weeks it had got to a stage where we believed these animals were in serious danger so the decision was made to remove them from the area and take them into our care. With the help of the local Gardai and our own vet we removed them from the location. The mares hooves were in a pretty poor state and needed some attention. The two horses are still in our care and will remain so until we can get them back to full health and find them a loving new home. Below are a few photos of the horses when we first seized them and also a before and after of the mares hooves.
OWL WITH BROKEN LEG FOUND IN FACTORY IN CLONMEL
These are the pics we took of an owl we recently took in with a badly broken leg. We recieved a call from the staff at Medite Clonmel to say that they had found this bird near one of their bolier rooms.
We collected the bird and immediatley took it our vet to have it checked out. It turned out that the right leg had been badly broken. The break was quiet high up on the birds leg which made it next to impossible to fix. Both ourselves and our vets tried numerous different avenues to try and save this bird but unfortunetly it was decided that it had to be put to sleep.
THERE ARE SO MANY SO CALLED DEER HUNTERS WHO ARE'NT REALLY A GREAT SHOT!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE AFTERMATH OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY MISS THEIR MARK!!!!!!!!!!
This unfortunate animal was something we came across when we were actually on a totally seperate call about another deer who was in distress. This deer had been shot but whoever had shot her had quiet clearly missed their target as the lower part of her jaw had been completely destroyed. Unfortunetley we were unable to capture it which meant that the animal took off and probably took days to die. This is an on going problem for us because there are so many trigger happy people out there with rifles who really are not qualified to use them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INJURED DEER FOUND ON THE COMERAGH MOUNTAINS
This is another deer we recieved a call about. We recieved the call from a member of the public who had found this young female deer while out walking her dog. It took us quiet some time to actually reach the deer because of where she was. When we did finally reach her we found that she had a massive injury on her right shoulder and was in a huge amount of distress.
We ended up having to get a jeep and trailer up there in order to transport the deer down off the mountain which was no easy task. Once we had her down, we took her to our vet but unfortunetly he told us that the injury was too severe and she had to be put to sleep.
HORSES BEING LEFT TO DIE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!!!
We have been inundated with calls regarding horses being left at the side of the road or in fields with no food or fresh water. Over the past few weeks and especially over the cold spell of weather we have investigated more than 15 seperate calls regarding this. Many of the cases we dealt with involved horses that were either dead or dying through BASIC SHEER NEGLECT!!!!!!!!!!!
In five of the cases we were left with no choice but to call our vet and have the animals put to sleep because there was no way to save them. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP, we know exactly who these horses belong to and we think that 99% of the public do too but for legal reasons we cannot mention who they are on our website.
Anyone who would knowingly leave an animal out in that kind of weather with no food, shelter or water does not deserve to have any animals in the first place. The TSPCA has been dealing with this problem for years but it has been getting steadily worse over the past couple of months and these misfortunate animals are having to pay the price, ITS BARBARIC THEY WAY THESE ANIMALS ARE BEING TREATED!!!!!!!!!!
BELOW ARE A FEW PHOTOS OF SOME OF THE CASES WE DEALT WITH OVER THE PAST 4 WEEKS. IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED PLEASE THINK TWICE ABOUT LOOKING AT THESE PHOTOS,
THEY ARE EXTREMELY GRAPHIC!!!!!!!!!!!
